The former general hospital at Owo owned by the Ondo State. Government was taken over by the Federal Government of Nigerian in 1989.
The Hospital on a Land mass of 58.5 hectares was thereafter upgraded to a Federal tertiary Health institution of 300 beds and redesignated Federal Medical Centre, Owo. Administrative and Clinical activities commended in the Centre 1993 and 1994 respectively. The Centre like other Federal Medical Centre is expected to perform the function of Federal University Teaching hospitals, except for the training of medical students. it also renders health services as as providing trainings and researches as may be necessary in the health sector.
